New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues on Dods People


Government departments

  • Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy: Insolvency Rules Committee – David Leibowitz appointed to the committee, and Alison Broad and Antony Zacaroli reappointed.
  • Home Office: Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs – Owen Bowden-Jones named as the new Chair, replacing Les Iversen from January.
  • Department for Education: Construction Industry Training Board – Adrian Belton resigned as Chief Executive, and Sarah Beale will take the role up on an interim basis.

House of Lords

  • Lord Prior (Conservative, Life Peer) died on 12th December.
  • Baroness Cavendish of Little Venice resigned the Conservative Whip and now sits as non-affiliated.

House of Commons

  • Culture, Media and Sport Committee – Julian Knight appointed as a member.

Scottish Government

  • Derek Penman reappointed as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary in Scotland.
  • Eric Fraser reappointed as Scottish Veterans Commissioner.

Welsh Government

  • Emma Watkins to become Deputy Director for Business and Sectors.

  • Teignbridge Council – Sally Morgan elected for Bovey – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Teignbridge Council – Richard Keeling elected for Chudleigh – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Taunton Deane Council – Ross Henley elected for Blackdown - Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • St Edmundsbury Council – Trevor Beckwith elected for Moreton Hall – Independent gain from Conservative.
  • Powys Council – Graham Breeze elected for Welshpool Llanerchydol – Independent gain from Independent.
  • Fife Council – Alastair Suttie elected for Leven, Kennoway & Largo – SNP hold.
  • Blackburn with Darwen Council – Amy Johnson elected for Higher Croft – Labour hold.
