New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People


PA

Government departments

  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office – Peter Jones became chief operating officer, having served as director for defence and international security since 2014; Helen Bower-Easton became Director of Communications, moving from No.10 where she was Official Spokesperson to the Prime Minister.

Executive Non-Departmental Public Bodies

  • Housing Ombudsman – David Connolly will act as interim housing ombudsman from 5 June 2017 whilst recruitment for a permanent ombudsman takes place. This follows the departure of current post-holder, Denise Fowler, who has been appointed as chief executive at Women’s Pioneer Housing.

Devolved Authorities

  • Scottish Parliament: Maurice Golden MSP becomes a full member on the UK delegation to the Committee of the Regions for the remainder of the parliamentary session to 2021.

Local Authorities:

  •  By-election result 26 May: Southend-on-Sea Council – Anne Chalk elected for Shoeburyness – Independent hold.
  • Northumberland County Council – chief executive Steve Mason has announced he will be leaving the council, after three years in the top job. Current deputy chief executive Daljit Lally will be the interim chief executive.
  • Liverpool City Council – chief executive Ged Fitzgerald will take temporary leave during his involvement in a police investigation.

Consultancies

  • Madano – Michael Zdanowski is joining as Head of Energy, leaving Edelman after three years
  • Small Charities Coalition – Mandy Johnson will become chief executive in August, replacing John Barrett.

NGOs

  • Changing Faces – Becky Hewitt has been appointed as chief executive, as of September 2017. She will replace the charity’s founder James Partridge.
  • Women’s Aid – Katie Ghose has been appointed as chief executive, leaving the Electoral Reform Society after seven years. She replaces Polly Neate who will be moving to Shelter.

Trade Associations

  • UK Finance – Stephen Jones has been appointed as chief executive of the new banking group which will be officially launched on 3 July.
