The Department for Transport is setting up its own dedicated international trade team following Britain's vote to leave the European Union.
The DfT is currently on the hunt for a deputy director for international trade, with a job specification for the newly-created role saying the successful candidate will be expected to lead a team of two to three staff working to bolster the transport industry in a post-Brexit Britain.
"Given the evolving international environment in which UK industry will operate after Brexit, the new International Trade team will be tasked with generating concrete actions to support international trade in the transport sector for the benefit of the UK economy," the job ad states.

"They will need to work closely with the Department for International Trade, developing their thinking in conjunction with the evolving role and capabilities of the new department, and influencing the DfT’s International Engagement Strategy."
The department has already set up a new International & Regulatory Reform Directorate as a direct response to the vote to quit the EU. According to the DfT, this directorate has overall responsibility for "managing DfT’s role in the EU exit process and international relations".
The successful candidate will be expected to develop "strong and mutually supportive relationships with other government departments", and must have "highly-attuned political acumen to navigate in an environment of ambiguity".
The DfT is offering a salary of around £75,000 to external candidates, with the department saying it has a duty to be "mindful of scrutiny on public sector pay" but could make more money available "for an exceptional candidate".
