Unlocking Rehabilitation: Innovative Solutions with Social Impact

Reducing reoffending isn’t just about justice but also building safer communities and unlocking the societal benefits that come with rehabilitation. Reoffending costs the economy £18bn annually, so finding innovative solutions is critical.

Inspired by the Cabinet Office’s ‘One Big Thing’ initiative on innovation, this CSW webinar, hosted in partnership with Serco, will explore how forward-thinking approaches to rehabilitation provide a robust framework for delivering public services that achieve meaningful, cross-cutting social impact.

Drawing on over 30 years of expertise, Serco’s evidence-based rehabilitation programmes comprise personalised interventions, psychology-driven care, and multi-agency collaboration. From ensuring stable accommodation and employment for prison leavers to addressing substance misuse and mental health, these strategies deliver ripple effects, lowering crime rates, increasing tax contributions, and reducing pressure on healthcare systems.

This session will also explore lessons from other government initiatives, such as the cross-government Reducing Reoffending Board and the Prison Leavers Project, that can inspire broader public service innovations to address complex, interconnected challenges.

Key discussion points include:

  • What does tailored rehabilitation look like?
  • How a trauma-informed and psychologically aware environment empowers prison staff to design effective rehabilitation programmes
  • Ensuring rehabilitation strategies have a positive impact on prison officers and staff
  • How rehabilitation principles can shape government services to maximise social value and impact
  • Lessons from cross-government and multi-agency efforts to align resources and outcomes
  • Exploring cutting-edge therapies and data-driven strategies that drive measurable results
