Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner recently pledged that the new administration will be “resetting our relationship with local government and rebuilding its foundations”.
Her announcement came just a few months after the Local Government Association similarly called for a reset, in a white paper released four weeks before the election.
That policy document began with an acknowledgement that “there has never been a more difficult time for local government”, but went to recognise that “the sector continues to show great resilience and continues to innovate”.
The LGA’s vision called for “ending bureaucratic reporting and exploiting the full potential of technology including AI”, as part of a wider drive “to make sure that we are at the forefront of new technologies and are nurturing the skilled workforce to make this happen”.
Now that ministers have hit the reset button, this webinar discussion, brought to you by PublicTechnology, in partnership with Civica, will examine what happens next, and what it means for local government technologists, staff delivering frontline services – and the citizens that rely on them.
Topics under discussion will include:
- What will government’s intended ‘reset’ of its relationship with local councils look like?
- What government can do to best support authorities in getting the most out of technology – and where Whitehall needs to take a back seat and let councils take the lead
- Can local authorities innovate in the face of huge financial constraints?
- How should suppliers and external experts best support local government digital?
- How can we measure progress?
Webinar takes place on the 12th February 2025 at 10:30AM and is free to attend.
