Civil servants hungry for economics info

Among all the fields of policy, civil servants are most eager to learn about economic growth and business development, according to the early findings of a CSW reader survey designed to shape the development of our newspaper and website.

Asked to “indicate how valuable you find journalism” on a range of policy areas, 47 per cent said that articles on the economy, business and infrastructure are ‘generally very valuable’ or ‘often very valuable’. This policy field was followed in joint second place by skills & education, and society & culture (43 per cent).

When asked “which types of article do you find most valuable”, civil servants singled out news (73 per cent), followed by features and CSW’s primary research-based Special Reports. In a sign that officials are keen to understand how policies play out in delivery operations, our regular Frontline column also scored well.

On civil service operations, there was greatest enthusiasm for reports on pay, pensions & benefits; leadership & management; and skills, training & learning.

The survey will remain open for a couple more weeks: CSW wants to better target its journalism, and improve its delivery channels. Respondents can enter a prize draw for shopping vouchers worth £150.
