New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via Dods People

UK Government

  • Department for Business and Trade: Central Arbitration Committee – Alan Bogg, Benjimin Burgher, Susan Cox, Jonathan Gray, Andrew James and Paul Swann appointed as deputy chairs for five years from 7 May; Amanda Ashworth, Deborah England, Joe Corcos, John Rawling, Julia Buck, Mark Pennifold and Robert Light appointed as employer members for five years from 7 May; Christopher Burrows, Nigel Cotgrove, Brian Hooper, Stephan Jary, Joanne Kaye, Andy Peart, Sean Starbuck, Tim Rose and Morris Stemp appointed as worker members for five years from 7 May. Insolvency Service – Lorcan O’Connor appointed as non-executive member to the board.
  • Cabinet Office – Rebecca Hilsenrath appointed as acting parliamentary and health service ombudsman.
  • Department for Culture, Media and Sport: Historic England – Sue Wilkinson re-appointed as commissioner for three years and three months from 1 June until 31 August 2027.
  • Department for Energy Security and Net Zero: Civil Nuclear Police Authority – Kerry Smith appointed as assistant chief constable of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary. National Energy System Operator – Dr Paul Golby appointed as chair from 6 May.
  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew – Faye Cooke appointed as trustee for three years; Professor Christopher Gilligan and Sir Paul Nurse and re-appointed as trustee for four years; Judith Batchelar and David Richardson re-appointed as trustee for three years.
  • Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office – Ramin Navai appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador from December, succeeding David Lelliott who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Patrick Lynch appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar from August, succeeding David Ashley who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Danielle Dunne appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the Republic of Paraguay from January 2025, succeeding Ramin Navai who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Samantha Job appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden from August, succeeding Judith Gough. Malcolm Green appointed as His Majesty’s ambassador to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay from August, succeeding Faye O’Connor. Alison Blackburne appointed as UK special envoy to the Horn of Africa and Red Sea.
  • Ministry of Justice: Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service – Rohan Sivanandan re-appointed as member until 23 December; Helen Jones and Professor Eileen Munro re-appointed as members for four years until 31 March 2028. Judicial Appointments Commission – Her Honour Judge Angela Rafferty KC appointed as judicial commissioner for three years from 9 June; Nicolina Andall and Tom Cross appointed as professional commissioners for three years from 1 July. Legal Services Board – Dr Gary Kildare re-appointed as Lay member for four years from 1 April 2025.
  • Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities: Spelthorne Borough Council – Lesley Seary appointed as lead best value inspector. Warrington Borough Council – Paul Najsarek appointed as lead best value inspector.

  • Natalie Elphicke, MP for Dover, defected from the Conservatives to Labour on 8 May.
  • Kate Osamor, MP for Edmonton, had the Labour whip restored on 8 May.
  • Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee – Jackie Doyle-Price elected as chair with 161 votes on 7 May.
  • Energy Security and Net Zero Committee – Therese Coffey added; Dan Poulter discharged.
