A warning has been issued about a scam email sent out in the name of Ministry of Justice permanent secretary Richard Heaton which asks companies to provide details for an apparent claim against them.
The scam has been highlighted by the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary, who said they had received a number of enquiries about an email that has been sent out in the name of Heaton and the master of the rolls, Sir Terence Etherton.
In the example of the scam circulated, recipients are told that there is a new court filing “needing your firm’s attention”. Users are then urged to download a PDF for more information, which would download viruses onto the users’ system.
