The Department for Exiting the European Union has started 2018 with a New Year bid to bolster its policy adviser ranks, with 60 roles actively being recruited during the next two weeks.
It is currently advertising for 25 senior policy advisers on salaries of up to £60,484 and 35 policy leads on salaries of up to £38,484, as well as a handful of other roles.
The drive come after MPs on parliament’s Public Accounts Committee last month raised concerns over staff churn at DExEU, pointing to an “alarmingly high” quarterly turnover of 9%.

Job descriptions for the Grade 7 senior adviser positions say the jobs will involve writing briefings for senior officials and ministers, undertaking “significant policy, delivery and analysis reviews”, and working on short-term problem-solving with policy teams on “urgent issues”.
“Every day will be different and varied and it will give you a real insight into how government operates and the chance to make a really positive difference to people’s lives,” the description adds.
A candidate pack for the jobs says successful applicants will be given specific short-term assignments, ranging from one to four months as and where the need arises in DExEU’s directorates.
“Ideal candidates will be self-starters who are able to work autonomously and flexibly as work emerges and evolves,” it says.
The person specification lists an understanding of EU regulations and economic skills as desirable attributes, and suggests applications with candidates with a “background in management consultancy” would be welcomed.
The more junior policy roles – which are at Band B2 – cover similar requirements in terms of analysis and report writing but are less exacting in terms of candidates’ work background.
DExEU is also recruiting for four roles in its International Engagements Unit, including two country engagement officers, a policy and strategy officer, and programme support officer – all with salaries of up to £38,484.
The IAU roles all have an application deadline of tonight (Jan 5), while the others give their deadline as January 19 but are being recruited on a rolling basis.
