New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People
UK Government
- Cabinet Office – Office of the Registrar of Consultant Lobbyists – Harry Rich re-appointed as registrar of consultant lobbyists for three years from 22 September.
- Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport – Charity Commission – Ann Phillips appointed as legal board member for three years from 1 September. VisitEngland – Nigel Wilkinson MBE appointed as an advisory board member for five years until 10 August 2027.
- Ministry of Justice – Judicial Appointments Commission – Susan Hoyle re-appointed as lay commissioner for three years. Courts and Tribunals Judiciary – Elizabeth Louise Willsteed appointed as circuit judge to be deployed to the Western Circuit, with effect from 12 September 2022.
- Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities – Liverpool Strategic Futures Advisory Panel – Steve Rotheram appointed as chair; Sir Howard Bernstein and Baroness Blake of Leeds appointed as members. The panel will be asked to nominate an experienced business leader to join them. The panel will work closely with the city mayor Joanne Anderson and her cabinet, and also with Liverpool City Council’s commissioners. Regulator of Social Housing – Jo Boaden and Deborah Gregory re-appointed to the board for three years from 1 September until 31 August 2025.
- Non-Ministerial Departments – Government Actuary Department – Matt Gurden appointed as deputy government actuary. He moves from his role as GAD’s actuarial director for clients, growth and development. Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) – Felicity Gillespie, Joanne Moran and Jon Yates appointed as board members for four years; David Meyer, Christopher Hanvey and Frank Young appointed as board members for three years.

- The Earl of Home (Conservative, hereditary peer) died on 22 August. A by-election will take place in due course.
- Baroness Fairhead was Conservative, now sits as non-affiliated.

Welsh Government
- Arts Council of Wales – Dafydd Rhys appointed as chief executive from the autumn.
- Welsh Government’s Active Travel Board –Dafydd Trystan-Davies re-appointed as chair.
Northern Ireland Executive
- Invest NI – Rose Mary Stalker’s term as chair extended until 31 January 2023.
- Northern Ireland Ambulance Service – Nicole Lappin's term as non-executive chair extended until 31 December; Dale Ashford re-appointed as non-executive lay director until 15 April 2026.
- Northern Ireland Social Care Council – Paul Martin re-appointed as non-executive chair until 31 March 2026; Sarah Browne and Roslyn Dougherty re-appointed as non-executive stakeholders members until 31 March 2026; Dr David Hayes and Jaqueline McGarvey re-appointed as non-executive registrant members until 31 March 2026; Gerard Guckian re-appointed as non-executive lay member until 30 April 2026.
- Patient and Client Council – William Halliday's term as non-executive lay member extended until 8 October; Joan McEwan's term as non-executive voluntary and community member extended until 1 October.
- Public Health Agency for Northern Ireland – Professor Nichola Rooney re-appointed as non-executive director (lay) and John Clayton (TU rep) re-appointed as non-executive director commenced until 9 April 2026; Joseph Stewart re-appointed as non-executive Director (lay) until 17 April 2026.
- South West College – Dr Nicholas O'Shiel re-appointed as chair of the governing body for four years from 7 January 2023.

- Help for Heroes – Melanie Waters to stand down as chief executive to take up the role of managing director of TradeUp. Deputy chief executive James Needham will take up the reins until a replacement for Waters is found.
- Meningitis Research Foundation – Claire Leigh appointed as chair of trustees, replacing Brian Scott who led the board for ten years.
- Switchback – Sian Williams appointed as chief executive from October.
