Appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs in the last week, via Dods People

UK Government

  • Department for Business and Trade – Lord Evans of Sealand appointed as the UK's trade envoy to Brazil. 
  • Cabinet Office: Crown Commercial Service – Dr Manuela Gazzard re-appointed as non-executive director for three years until 31 August 2027. Security Vetting Appeals Panel – James Barron, Sally Berlin, Nicholas Griffin and Claire Stokes terms as lay members extended until 31 March 2027. Senior Salaries Review Body – Zoë Billingham re-appointed as ex-officio member for three years until 31 January 2028.  
  • Department for Energy Security and Net Zero: Committee on Fuel Poverty – Caroline Flint re-appointed as chair for three years; Belinda Littleton and Anthony Pygram re-appointed as members for three years from 3 May; Gordon McGregor re-appointed as member for two years from 17 May. Nuclear Waste Services – Seth Kybrid appointed as interim chief executive.  
  • Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Defra Board – Sachin Jogia and Indro Mukerjee appointed as non-executive directors.
  • Department of Health and Social Care: Sir John Oldham appointed to a direct ministerial appointment to work closely with the secretary of state for health and social care to transform the health and care system and move to a neighbourhood health service for 12 months.  
  • Home Office: Disclosure and Barring Service – Dr Jeff James appointed as chief executive from 1 June. Immigration Advice Authority – Heather Laing appointed as permanent chief executive.
  • Ministry of Justice: Family Procedure Rule Committee – Robert Edwards re-appointed as member until 28 February 2027.  

Houses of Parliament:  

House of Commons  

  • Mike Amesbury appointed as steward and bailiff of the Three Hundreds of Chiltern and is no longer MP for Runcorn and Helsby. A writ for electing a new MP will be issued on 26 March and a by-election will take place in due course.
  • Emma Lewell-Buck (Labour) MP for South Shields, now known as Emma Lewell.  
  • Energy Security and Net Zero Committee – Melanie Onn added; Josh MacAlister discharged.  
  • Health and Social Care Committee – Alex McIntyre added; Deirdre Costigan discharged.  
  • Justice Committee – Matt Bishop added; Alex Barros-Curtis discharged.  
  • Work and Pensions Committee – Danny Kruger added; Ben Obese-Jecty discharged.  

House of Lords  

  • The Bishop of Coventry (Non-affiliated) joined the Lords on 18 March.  
  • Lord Alliance (Lib Dem) retired from the Lords on 21 March.  
  • Conduct Committee – Lord Etherton appointed as Chair on 20 March.  
  • UK Delegation to the UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly – Lord Kirkhope of Harrogate added; Lord Lamont of Lerwick discharged. 

Devolved Administrations:  

Scottish Government  

  • Food Standards Scotland – Dr Carol Evans re-appointed as member for 18 months from 1 July until 31 December 2026; Alban Denton re-appointed as member for four years from 1 July until 30 June 2029; Aileen Brown re-appointed as member for four years from 1 January 2026 until 31 December 2029. 
  • Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board – Dr Paul Ryan and Michelle Wailes re-appointed as members for four years from 1 June until 31 May 2029.  

Welsh Government  

  • Housing Regulation Independent Assurance Panel – Ruth Glazzard appointed as chair for three years from 17 February.  

London Assembly  

  • Unmesh Desai AM had Labour Party whip restored.
