New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People
Government departments
- Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Animal Health and Welfare Board for England – Peter Laurie, Emma Slawinski, Gwyn Jones, James Russell, John Reed and Charles Sercombe appointed as non-executive directors for three years from 1 November and will support the new chair Jonathan Statham. Environment Agency – Richard Macdonald’s term as deputy chair extended until 31 March 2022; Lynne Frostick’s term as non-executive director extended until 15 July 2022; John Lelliott and Dame Caroline Mason’s terms as non-executive director extended until 31 March 2024; Judith Batchelar and Robert Gould’s term as non-executive directors extended until 31 March 2025.
- Home Office: Disclosure and Barring Service – Julia Wortley re-appointed as independent monitor for three years from 1 October to 30 September 2024.

- Speaker's Advisory Committee on Works of Art – Dean Russell promoted to chair; Patrick Grady added as a member; Hywel Williams discharged as chair.
- Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) Board – Katherine Fletcher, Stephen Metcalfe, Maria Miller, Carol Monaghan and Ben Spencer added; Thangam Debbonaire discharged.
House of Lords
- Lord Puttnam (Labour, life peer) retired from the House of Lords on 27 October.
- Lord Tyler (Liberal Democrat, life peer) retired from the House of Lords on 28 October.

- Daniel Francis selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Old Bexley and Sidcup by-election.
Devolved administrations
Scottish Government
- Highlands and Islands Enterprise – Dr Stuart Black appointed as chief executive from January 2022, replacing Interim chief executive Carroll Buxton.
Northern Ireland Executive
- Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside – Prof Julian Orford appointed as deputy chair from 1 November to 31 October 2024.
- South Eastern Regional College – Samuel Hagen appointed as member of the governing body for four years from 18 October.
- Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery – Professor Carol Curran's term as vhair extended from 20 September to 19 December; Alison Baxendale's term as non-executive (lay) member extended from 18 September to 17 December 2021; Paul Davidson and Dr Vinod Tohani's terms as non-executive (lay). Members extended from 1 October to 31 December: Lisa Houlihan, Deirdre O'Donnell and Deborah Oktar-Campbell's terms as non-executive (professional) members extended from 1 October to 31 December; Catherine Rice's term as non-executive (professional) member extended from 28 October to 27 January 2022.
Local authorities
- Arun District Council – James Hasset appointed as Interim chief executive from 1 November, replacing Nigel Lynn who has been appointed chief executive of West Berkshire Council. A replacement for Mr Hasset at Somerset West and Taunton Council has yet to be announced.
- East Lothian Council – Council leader Willie Innes (Labour) died on 24 October following a long illness.
- Horsham District Council – Glen Chipp to retire as chief executive in April 2022.
- Kingston Council – Andreas Kirsch (Liberal Democrat) elected as council leader, replacing Caroline Kerr who announced last week that she is standing down.
- Worthing Borough Council – Daniel Humphreys (Conservative) is standing down as council leader. A new leader will be elected at a local party meeting on 8 November.

- Anaphylaxis Campaign – Simon Williams appointed chief executive, succeeding Lynne Regent from 22 November.
- Christian Aid – Amanda Khozi Mukwashi to stand down as chief executive at the end of the year and will join the UN in early 2022.

- Advertising Association – Alessandra Bellini appointed as president, succeeding Keith Weed. Ms Bellini moves from Tesco where she was chief customer officer and executive sponsor for D&I.
