The Treasury’s director of fiscal policy will depart next year to become chief executive of the Resolution Foundation.

Ruth Curtice, who has been a civil servant at the Treasury for more than 15 years, will become the think tank’s chief exec on January 20.

Curtice said she is “excited to be leading the Resolution Foundation into the next phase of its valuable work”.

“I have seen at first hand the impact its excellent analysis has had on policy in the UK,” she added. “I look forward to furthering its mission to improve the living standards of low-to-middle income households.”

Until now, Curtice's career has focused on domestic economic policy including labour markets, tax, fiscal policy and financial regulation. Her roles at HMT have included working in the chancellor’s private office, supporting the Independent Commission on Banking, and leading the Treasury’s distributional analysis.

The Resolution Foundation is an independent research and policy institute, founded in 2005 with the purpose of raising living standards for low-to-middle income working-age households.

The think tank was previously led for nine years by Torsten Bell, who left this year to stand as a Labour MP. Bell was elected in July and was appointed by the government as a parliamentary private secretary to the Cabinet Office. Mike Brewer has led the think tank on an interim basis.

Founder and chairman Clive Cowdery said: “I am delighted that Ruth will be taking the leadership of the Resolution Foundation in our 20th year, as Britain enters a decisive decade of policy choices.

“She brings an exceptional track record in economic analysis and policy making, and shares a deep commitment to the Resolution Foundation’s mission to improve the living standards of millions of families on low-to-middle incomes.”
