Cornerstone Insight: Engagement and training in the Civil Service

Cornerstone and Dods carried out research in early 2014, focusing on attracting, training and retaining talented individuals. Strong engagement is vital if these individuals are to achieve their full potential and help their organisations to achieve policy and reform objectives.

The Civil Service carries out an annual People Survey which measures engagement across their service and within each department. With over 274,000 participants in 2014, this survey is a valuable resource for senior managers across government. Cornerstone's survey provides a complementary resource, giving managers further insights which can inform their plans to improve engagement. Here we draw out some of these insights, focusing on how age, seniority and length of employment relates to engagement levels.
