Mark Babington has joined the Financial Report Council as deputy director of audit policy.
Babington arrives at the independent regulator - which sets the UK Corporate Governance and Stewardship Codes and is partly government-funded – after serving as director at the National Audit Office.
During his tenure at the spending watchdog, Babington oversaw its work on areas including HM Revenue and Customs, fraud & error and mass market operations.
Announcing the appointment, Marek Grabowski, director of audit policy at the FRC said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark to my team. His extensive career as an auditor in a broad number of sectors and more recently with the National Audit Office provides an excellent basis for his new role in standard setting, influencing and research which is vital to our role as a regulator and our mission to foster investment”.
