BT takes a look at the shifting nature of cyber threats, and how organisations can detect and prevent them
Over the past few days, Europe has seen an unprecedented ransomware attack that has affected organisations in over 150 countries, highlighting the threatening landscape the digital world faces today.
Ransomware is a new class of malware that is proving to be the next big threat to IT systems and a lucrative means of extracting money from organisations and citizens alike.
Like other forms of malware, infection often starts with a socially engineered email containing an infected attachment. It can also be spread via HTML links to malware download sites hidden in seemingly innocuous web sites.
Having visibility of these threats in time to do something about them is a constant battle. Threat intelligence is of paramount importance in understanding the growing attack landscape but crucially, if it is to be effective, it must be both actionable and acted upon. Having the right people in place with the expertise for a real-time response is vital.
