The DVLA already handles calls for the transport department, and is in discussion with other transport ALBs to extend this, service chief executive Oliver Morley told CSW.

The review, which was accepted by ministers, also calls for the appointment of an chair to help the CE deliver a new strategy.

It found that the agency works effectively, but “lacks a long term strategic plan or a clear view of how best to respond to varied customer requirements”.

Morley told CSW a new strategy for the DVLA will be published before the end of this month.
