The government has denied claims that it has selected Aberdeen for the headquarters of GB Energy.
The publicly owned firm will be based somewhere in Scotland, but the government has not yet confirmed where this will be.
The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero has now denied a BBC report that claimed Aberdeen had been chosen.
A spokesperson for the department, which is headed by Ed Miliband, said no decision has yet been taken.
A bill on GB Energy will be presented to the House of Commons tomorrow by energy minister Michael Shanks.
A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokesperson said: "We do not comment on speculation. Decisions on Great British Energy's location will be announced in due course."
