New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues at Dods People

Government departments

  • Prime Minister’s Office – Alan Nigel Smith appointed as first church estates commissioner from 1 October, in succession to Loretta Minghella. Lord Sinclair appointed as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, in succession to the late Patsy Gilroy.
  • Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Energy: UK Shared Business Services Ltd – John Clarke appointed as board chair.
  • Cabinet Office – Dr Jane Goodall appointed as COP26 Advocate. Geospatial Commission – Alexandra Notay appointed to the board of commissioners, replacing Dame Kate Barker whose term ended on 30 June.
  • Ministry of Defence: UK Hydrographic Office – Rear Admiral Rhett Hatcher appointed as the United Kingdom’s national hydrographer and UKHO’s deputy chief executive from 1 July.
  • Department of Health and Social Care: NHS England – Amanda Pritchard appointed as chief executive officer from 1 August.
  • Ministry of Justice: Insolvency Rules Committee – Alison Curry appointed as accountant member from 1 August to 31 July 2024.
  • Northern Ireland Office – Alyson Kilpatrick appointed as chief commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission from 1 September.

Devolved authorities

Northern Ireland Executive

  • Probation Board for Northern Ireland – current chair and board members’ term extended by three months from 30 November to 28 February 2022.

Local authorities

  • Brentwood Borough Council and Rochford District Council – Jonathan Stephenson approved as joint chief executive and head of paid service for an initial six months starting from 1 August.
  • Oldham Council – Dr Carolyn Wilkins is stepping down as chief executive.
