Nominations are now open for the 2018 Civil Service Awards.
The Awards, now in their thirteenth year, celebrate individuals and projects across the civil service, and winners will be announced at a ceremony at Lancaster House in London in November.
Speaking at the official nominations launch on Tuesday, Ministry of Justice perm sec Richard Heaton – who is also champion for the Awards – urged leaders across the civil service to do their part in encouraging and supporting their teams to nominate. The 2018 winners are already out there, he said, and the job of category champions and team leaders is to help uncover them.

There are fifteen categories in the Awards, ranging from the Leslie Strathie Operational Excellence Award – named after the former HMRC chief and aiming to celebrate excellent service delivery – to the Health and Wellbeing Award, which is looking for a team or individual who has made a “highly effective contribution to promoting or improving health and wellbeing within the civil service”.
Writing for a new section on CSW dedicated to the Civil Service Awards, DCMS perm sec and Innovation Award champion Sue Owen described each category as “a building block of a brilliant civil service". She said: "I hope you enjoy learning about the Civil Service Awards over the coming months... [and] the stories inspire your work and spur you to enter the 2018 Awards!"
As well as being judged on category specific criteria, nominations are expected to demonstrate measurable benefits and sustainability, to show the core values of the civil service and to model innovation, inclusion and partnership working.
