 Government departments

  • Department for International Development – Lord Bates stood down as minister of state, as well as Lords spokesperson for HM Treasury. Baroness Sugg appointed as minister of state .
  • HM Treasury – Lord Young of Cookham appointed as Lords spokesperson for HM Treasury, as Lord Bates stands down
  • Department for Transport – Baroness Vere of Norbiton appointed as parliamentary undersecretary of state.
  • Whips’ Office – Alister Jack appointed as government whip. Matt Warman appointed as assistant government whip.
  • Department for International Trade – Henry Pearson named as the UK’s new cyber security ambassador.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office – Nick Whittingham has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Guatemala and Her Majesty’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Honduras. Anne Macro has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
  • Department for Education  Dominic Herrington confirmed as national schools commissioner, having been in the role on an interim basis.
  • Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy: Financial Reporting Council – Richard Lawrence appointed to the Audit and Assurance Council. Intellectual Property Office – David Holdsworth appointed as Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Operations.

  • Conservative Party – Helen Whatley appointed as deputy chair.

Local authorities

  • By-election result 25 April: Shropshire Council – Kate Halliday elected for Belle Vue – Labour hold (Harry Taylor resigned).

 

Interest groups

  • NHS Confederation – Owen Williams to replace Stephen Dorrell as chair on an interim basis.
  • Royal College of Nursing Foundation – Jane Cummings to replace Robert Sowney as chair on 1 May.
