His no vote comes after the pre-appointment hearing of Baroness Browning for the position of Chair of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA).
Mulholland left the hearing partway through to attend Qs and according to his twitter was not able to vote on his return.
Mulholland stated on his twitter: “Having been denied a chance to vote, I wish to put on the record: I’d already told PASC chair I was voting no on ACOBA chair.”
CSW reported yesterday that Baroness Browning was grilled by the PASC members, including Mulholland.
Before he left, shortly after 11.30am, Mulholland asked: “If you want me to recommend your appointment, are you going to be prepared to accept the possibility that the rules might be changed in the future and that actually there may be a case for changing and improving the system?”
He continued: “We had Lord Lang’s opinion, and it was frankly the soft side: ‘It’s all fine, there’s no need for change’. If you’re going to be like that, I frankly will not give you my approval.”
Baroness Browning replied: “I’m reluctant to say something against the threat of ‘I will approve you are not’.”
