New appointments in the civil service, UK politics, and public affairs, via our colleagues on Dods People


Government departments

  • HM Treasury – Charlotte Hogg appointed as Deputy Governor for Markets and Banking. 
  • Northern Ireland Office – David Seymour reappointed as the Independent Reviewer for three years.
  • Department for Education: Office for Students – Michael Barber named as the preferred Chair of the new higher education regulator, to be established in April 2018.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office – Simon Smith has been appointed Her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

Non-Ministerial Departments

  • Food Standards Agency – Hamid Ghoddusi, Rebecca McKenzie, Lesley Stanley and Anton Alldrick have been appointed as members of the Advisory Committee on Novel Foods and Processes.

House of Lords 

  • Joint Committee on Human Rights – Baroness O’Cathain appointed as a member.​

  • Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy – Rebecca Long-Bailey.
  • Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – Sue Hayman. 
  • Shadow Secretary of State for Wales – Christina Rees. 
  • Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury – Peter Dowd.

By-election Results 9th February​ 

  • Corby Council – Isabel McNab elected for Kingswood and Hazel Leys – Labour hold.
  • Cotswold Council – Andrew Doherty elected for Fairford North – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.​
  • Fylde Council – Mark Bamforth elected for St John’s – Ratepayer hold.
  • North Norfolk – Marion Millership elected for Waterside – Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Tendring Council – Mike Bush elected for Great and Little Oakley – UKIP gain from Independent. 

Industry & interest groups

  • Million Plus – Ann Rossiter is the new Chief Executive
  • Russell Group – Tim Bradshaw is the new Acting Director.
  • Higginson PR – John and Clodagh Higginson launched this new agency.
  • Standard Chartered – Tracey McDermott to become Group Head, Corporate, Public and Regulatory Affairs from 20th March.
